Having discovered/learned that one manufacturer’s ¾” union threads aren’t quite the same as another manufacturer’s, I thought I’d have two on hand to try and maybe end up with a double union installation. Watts fit the old threads. Then I’m looking for the flat washer which I assume I’m going to need/re-use. I’m guessing that was the black color to the water drained. Then I discover new Watts uses an O-ring and regulator has groove for O-ring and washer would be almost cut. I decide to use O-ring in old Union and fit new copper male adapter to output. Nominal amount of soldering and I’m done Old union doesn’t drip/leak. I don’t know if O-ring sealed or metal to metal sealed. Two hours to do what I thought would be a one hour job.
While working on installation, I realize faucet I tested is before regulator! Later tenant tells me old regulator was “singing” and new one is quiet. I know it was 39 ½ years old and rust marks showed it leaked but didn’t drip.
Union has been in for four days so durability not rated. Rating based on ease of installation.

Have had 2 of these in service for 3 years, one each on the hot and cold risers to my apartment to reduce 95 PSI building pressure down to 30 PSI to reduce appliance failures.
Many reviews complain of vibration. Most PRVs will oscillate if the pressure difference between supply and outlet is great enough and flow is great enough relative to the size of the PRV. There are two ways to avoid this - one is to use a larger-sized PRV, the other is to use two in series to reduce the pressure in stages.
I have had no oscillation problems with a 65 PSI pressure drop across either unit while supplying a shower, and neither unit has leaked, despite one being on a hot water supply line that varies between room temperature and 120 degrees F daily.

I installed a few of these valves for customers and so far no complaints from them despite the negative reviews. They appear to work as they are designed for. So far so good...the price is right too.
