Good Match for Vermont Maple XP PergoI used these T moldings between Pergo XP Vermont Maple flooring and adjacent tile flooring, both over a concrete slab. It's unfortunate that the image on the Home Depot web site doesn't show the color and pattern of the molding, as it matches the Vermont Maple flooring very well. It was an act of faith to order this product as it was unavailable for viewing at my local stores and is not the molding recommended by Pergo. I consoled myself with the idea that I could just return the moldings to my local store if they didn't match, and in the end that wasn't a problem, but a photo on the web site would have eliminated the worry.
Installation was fairly straight forward, at least as straight forward as drilling 3/16" holes in a concrete slab can be. Even though I used a hammer drill and new bits I still had problems with the bit walking when it struck a piece of aggregate near the surface of the slab. I also "found" pieces of aggregate that just couldn't be drilled. In both cases it was a simple matter to move the hole an inch or two down the track and start over.
The only real problem with installation is that if for some reason it is necessary to take the T molding back up, the stem of the T remains in the track ruining the piece of molding for reuse. I suppose designing the track to grip so vigorously is necessary to prevent the molding from lifting in use, but the result is a wasted twenty-five dollar piece of molding if there's any kind if issue that requires removing it after installation.
Only four screws and plastic anchors are provided with each six foot piece of molding, which is fine if you're using the entire piece for a long transition. I had several doors to trim and didn't feel that two screws were enough to hold the track in place. I used some plastic anchors and short drywall screws I had on hand to supplement those provided with the molding and that worked out fine, but for twenty-five bux per molding piece I shouldn't have had to paw through my junk drawers to find them.
I also wonder about the recommended clearances between the track and the installed floor. Pergo recommends 3/8" between the wall and the floor edge, only half of that amount results when the installation instructions that come with the molding are followed. I'm hoping that as the temperature swings over the seasons I don't run into problems with the floor running out of room to grow or that it doesn't slip out from under the molding.
