SimpleSet White 1 Gal. Pre-Mixed Thin-Set Mortar - Product information
SimpleSet is a No-mix, no-mess alternative to traditional thin-set mortars. It spreads quickly and easily. Recommended to bond porcelain, marble, granite, stone, ceramic, mosaic and quarry tile up to 8 in. x 8 in. for interior use only. Can be used with tile up to 18 in. x 18 in., but dry time significantly increases. Dry time will be extended if using larger tiles, bonding to non-porous surface, in high humidity, or if temperature is below 60°F. Do not apply excess adhesive when installing.

My advice is RUN from this product. I am a professional installer and on my first use on a small bathroom floor (on cement board) took 3 days to cure for grout. After speaking with the so called HD specialist I was told it must have been a bad bucket. Took a credit and tried it again last week. Well I am 6 days past the install date and the tile still not fully set. When walking over the tile you hear the slight squishing sounds. This is in an air-conditioned and heated home, I even measured the home humidity at 46%. After doing more searching online I clearly fell a victim of a poor product with mislead HD employees. I had high hopes but its not worth the frustration of my customers. FYI: search about the product I have seen complaints with drying delays of as much as a month. I am once again returning the product NEVER to fall in the trap again.

I used this mortar to set 4" hexagon tiles on a shower floor. The product was easy to work with ...I used this mortar to set 4" hexagon tiles on a shower floor. The product was easy to work with and I was able to lay the entire floor fairly quickly. However, it took more than 6 days to fully cure. Next time I'll go with a different product and mix my own.
The Good: This product was easy to use, without the mess of mixing mortar myself. I like that it came in white as my grout and tile are both white, so mistakes aren't as glaring. Clean-up was easy and the mortar didn't dry out too quickly, so I was able to manipulate the tiles while setting them longer than expected, and which was helpful with the more challenging hexagon shape of my tiles.
The Bad: I used 2 containers of this mortar, with one of them much drier than the other. Both gallons were easy to work with, but the drier batch definitely dried more quickly. The price seems a bit high for the product. I didn't want to deal with mixing, so was willing to pay more. BUT, then came the ugly...
The Ugly: The product spec says this mortar takes 1-3 days to cure. As others have stated in their reviews, this is a very slow drying product. It took 6 days to fully cure, which is crazy. It's been somewhat humid outside, but the AC was on. On day 4 I finally put a fan on the tile for 36 hours, which helped.

I used regular mix thinset for most of the floor, but used this pre-mixed thin-set for the edges where I had to trim tiles, and for my steps - that way I could work in smaller sections and focus on the cutting without worrying about my thin-set thickening up. Everything seemed great with this plan - the SimpleSet went on as expected the porch looked great.
But - four days later the tiles with the SimpleSet were still wet. I pushed on a couple of them, and they squished right in. This hasn't improved, so tonite (a week later) I pulled the SimpleSet tiles up. I used just my hands - it was that easy. I scraped off the simpleset; tomorrow I will return to using mixed thinset.
After some research I discovered the problem. In spite of what this says ('Thin-Set Mortar') that's not really what it is, at least not in the traditional definition of thin-set. Dry thin-set - the stuff you mix with water - is chemically cured, so it doesn't need air. SimpleSet is more like glue - it dries in the air. So if you aren't using small tiles, and don't use a very thin layer of SimpleSet, then it takes essentially forever to dry.
It doesn't seem like this product is marketed correctly - it will not work for many traditional thin-set applications.

I laid my tile over a week ago and the 'mortar'is still not set. Will go straight to the one star ratings from now on to get the skinny on a product. This stuff is bad from the get go and is improperly labeled.

I decided I needed a little art on my block wall but didn't feel confident mixing my own thin set...I decided I needed a little art on my block wall but didn't feel confident mixing my own thin set.. This stuff is great, easy to work wirh and easy clean up..and more importantly the tiles on the wall are very secure.

Worked great for my kitchen backsplash. I applied 3”...Worked great for my kitchen backsplash. I applied 3” x 12” beveled tiles to a painted plaster wall using a stacked tiling pattern and had no issues.
