I wanted to do a new backsplash in the kitchen and after looking at using thin set versus this two sided tape made for tile, I decided to take a chance. The tape comes with an easy to peel off cover on both sides. I found the easiest way to apply the tape was to peel back a small amount on the back side, apply it and pull a few inches off, then repeat. The front side is still covered so you can then apply pressure it make sure the back side sticks to your wall. My first small "test" piece was a mess because I took both sides off before I realized that was not the way to apply it. Don't do it!
I used scissors to cut it to size - make sure to use some oil on the blade, then wipe off. It makes a HUGE difference when you cut. The scissors do get sticky and I found the easiest way to clean them was to use duct tape. Lay it over the sticky stuff and then pull off the duct tape. The mess comes off too. Then re apply oil and wipe off. (I just used canola oil, but any will do)
When I had all the tape up I took off the front cover, got the tile sheets (the type that is 12" x12" sheets of 1 inch glass tiles) and started applying the tile. It was really easy. Another tip is DON'T push the tile on until you line them up. The tile can be moved but it is not easy once you press them into the tape.
I waited until the next day to grout but you can grout the tile as soon as you want.
My back splash is 8 inches high and about 80 inches long. I also made a 24 inch high by 30 inches wide over the sink are.
The end result is really nice. Everything is sticking just fine. You'd never know I didn't use thin set under the tile. I'm very pleased with the product!
