24 in. x 100 ft. 2-mil Protective Film for Carpets (12-Rolls) - Product information

Trimaco's Protective Film for Carpets is an easy-to-use adhesive film which provides a tight bond with soft surfaces, such as carpet, yet it's easy to remove. Solvent-based adhesive leaves no residue or damage to the surface as it protects against damage from spills, dirt and foot traffic. Reverse wound (adhesive side out) for easy application (do not use on hard surfaces).

  • Temporary protection
  • Adhesive does not stick to carpet
  • Highly resistant to tears and punctures
  • Protects against damage from spills, dirt and foot traffic

If you have a remodeling project and need to protect your carpet this product is GREAT! I was remodeling one of my bedrooms and needed to protect the carpet so I took a chance and covered it with this film, all I can say is WOW! I rolled my sheetrock lift all over it, textured the walls, and painted the room over a period of three weeks and this stuff never peeled up and protected the carpet and never ripped or tore. When the project was done it removed easily and left no sticky residue. I highly recommend this stuff for your next remodel!

pretty nice
I haven't had a chance to use this on a job yet so I laid some down on my carpet and walked on it for 3 days. It went down pretty easy, sticks well to the carpet. (maybe to well) . It stayed in place the whole time so there was no problem of it coming up and causing a trip hazard. At first I thought it might be to thin but after walking on it for awhile it seemed to hold up nicely. The only problem I had was removing it It stuck so well that when I pulled it off it lifted my carpet up. I had it in the middle of the room so it was ok but if was near the edge of the wall it might pull the carpet off the tack strip. So you want to be careful where you put it. It says on the packaging not to use it on wood, laminate or ceramic tile. Or newly laid carpet for 72 hours. They specify why on the new carpet so I don't understand that, they must have a reason. Other than that I will work great on my jobs.

Good for major remodeling
This review is for one single complementary roll of protective carpet film that I received in exchange for an unbiased review.
The first time that I saw this type of product used, it seemed like a major game-changer for keeping carpets clean in the remodeling industry. I have seen dozens of trades people daily walk the protected carpet route to their work area during the course of a remodeling job and the carpets only needed normal cleaning when done. Quite a bit different than laying down cardboard, plywood, or sliding around on plastic drop cloths.
This stuff works fairly well. Just peel off a foot or so, press it down to the carpet, then unroll through the entire traffic path, pressing down occasionally as you go. It is easy to sweep up debris on top of the film, which should probably be done often to keep it from being punctured.
I personally think that a 3 foot wide product would have served me better than this 2 foot roll. The two foot option may work better as an edge barrier when painting walls, for example. But, it may quite expensive for normal painting. It really isn’t an option to be able to apply it up the wall a few inches to protect base mouldings or radiators, since the directions specifically state that it should not be used on hardwood floors, probably because it may pull off the varnish (or paint) when removed.
Keep in mind that this is not reusable like cardboard or plywood, or recyclable. Problems are that it will invariably double back and stick to itself at some point while applying, and take quite a bit of time to peel it back apart, and it isn't cheap. Still, there may be numerous other uses for this product, from wrapping goods and packages tightly together, to automotive or RV uses. Always wise to test overnight before a full-scale application.
Would I use this again? Maybe, but only for remodeling resulting in extensive foot traffic on carpet that needed protection and would not be replaced, even then I would use the 3-foot wide material. Otherwise, the traditional methods may be more cost effective, faster, and good enough.
